CLÁSICOS DEL SOUL. EL RITMO Y LA PASIÓN
Los sonidos negros, o afroamericanos si lo prefieren, se llame jazz, blues, rock, soul o funky, constituyen una fuerza presente en todo el desarrollo de la música popular desde comienzos del Siglo XX. En los años 60 empezó a llamarse soul a una música hecha de ritmo y pasión, en perfecto equilibrio.
Hubo dos grandes focos: Detroit, con Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Temptations o Miracles y Memphis, con Otis Redding como abanderado con nombres tan señeros como Wilson Pickett, Carla Thomas o Sam and Dave.
Si les unimos francotiradores de alto voltaje, como Esther Phillips, Nina Simone, Arthur Alexander o Ray Charles, el resultado fue una explosión de talento difícilmente alcanzable por otros géneros musicales. No solo triunfaron con sus canciones. También impregnaron la música de artistas como Beatles o Rolling Stones que repitieron, en sus comienzos, muchos de sus éxitos.
